Product Description
The original Compton design and its pearwood textile printing blocks form part of the William Morris Gallery’s collection. Printed by hand at William Morris’s Merton Abbey workshop in South West London, the design exemplifies the craftsmanship of traditional wooden block printing. In this Ink Blue colourway, a rich navy background is layered with warm burnt orange, soft gold tones and muted reds, creating striking contrast and depth within the intricate botanical forms. Originally designed for Compton Hall in Wolverhampton, home of brewer and art collector Laurence Hodson, the pattern reflects William Morris’s vision to transform interiors with colour and pattern while valuing the skill of the maker. He championed the use of harmonious natural dyes over the harsh synthetic alternatives widely used in Victorian times. Crafted on high-quality non-woven paper, this wallpaper brings a sophisticated finish to any space.
