Compton Sage Wallpaper

The original Compton design and its pearwood textile printing blocks form part of the William Morris Gallery’s collection. Printed by hand at William Morris’s Merton Abbey workshop in South West London, the design celebrates the traditional craftsmanship of wooden block printing. Each pattern was first transferred onto pearwood using tracing paper, with William Morris himself carefully overseeing the accuracy before carving began.
